How we do outreach

Occasionally we email someone we have not met, to ask whether a specific problem is real for them. This page explains exactly how that works, because a cold email from a company you have not heard of deserves an explanation you can verify.

We contact you once

If we email you and you do not reply, that is the end of it. We do not send follow-up sequences, we do not send a second campaign later, and your address is never used again for any other product. This is not a courtesy setting we could change our minds about. Our system records every address it has ever contacted and refuses to export it a second time, so a follow-up is not something we could send by accident.

Why you specifically

We build software for narrow, specialist problems. Before we build anything, we want to know whether the problem is real for the people who would actually use it. So we look for people whose role means they would be dealing with that problem, and we ask them directly. If the message you received has nothing to do with your work, we got it wrong, and we would rather hear that than not.

Where your details came from

Business contact details are obtained from licensed data providers, using published professional information such as your role and employer. We do not scrape social networks, and we do not buy consumer data. Under the Australian Spam Act 2003 this is inferred consent, and it depends on the message being genuinely relevant to your work, which is why we would rather send a hundred relevant emails than a hundred thousand irrelevant ones.

How to stop hearing from us

Use the unsubscribe link in any message. It takes effect immediately with no confirmation step and no login. Replying with the word stop has the same effect. If you would like your details deleted rather than suppressed, say so in a reply and we will erase them, keeping only a one-way hash of your address so that our system can continue to honour the promise never to contact you again.

What we keep, and for how long

If you do not engage with a message, we delete your name, role, employer and email address within 90 days of the campaign closing. What remains is a one-way hash that cannot be turned back into your address but is enough to keep you off every future list. We keep this data because it is the only way to guarantee the one-contact rule, not because it has any other value to us.
